Maria was recently appointed as the founding Director of the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells at the Helmholtz Centre, Munich and as Professor at Ludwig Maximilians Universität. She leads a group of 9 people and focuses on addressing how early mouse development is regulated by chromatin-mediated changes. Torres-Padilla is an ERC Starting grant holder, an EMBO Member, EpiGeneSys NoE RISE1 member, received a prize from the Schlumberger Foundation and from the EMBO Young Investigator Programme. She participated in Nucleosome4D ITN. Torres-Padilla is involved in numerous international collaborative projects and has teaching experience at the Universities of Mexico, Paris, Cambridge, and Strasbourg. She has organised two international EMBO Workshops on histone variants and two international Abcam meetings on Epigenetics in Strasbourg.
