Eric Marquez

I am Spanish, I was born in Barcelona and brought up in Madrid. I have been interested in science since I was very young; for instance, when I was a child I used to ask for scientific toys for my birthday rather than the normal toys for my age. Once my parents gave me a microscope and I looked at everything you can imagine though it. It was one of the best presents my parents could have given me and I am very grateful for this because they are, probably, the reason why I am a scientist.

I graduated in biology with a specialization in biotechnology by the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). During my degree I collaborated and did my bachelor project in the biotechnology research group of the Genetics Department of my faculty. During 2016/2017 I did an inter-university master degree in genetics and cell biology in the Complutense University of Madrid, Autónoma University of Madrid and Alcalá University (Spain). I did my master’s thesis in subjects related to genetics, molecular biology and embryo development in the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA), in the Molecular Embryology, Stem Cells and Transgenesis department. In 2017/2018 I was part of the research group of Molecular Engineering of Enzymes, in the Food Biotechnology Department of the Institute of Agricultural Chemistry and Food Technology, IATA – CSIC (Valencia, Spain). Nowadays, I want to continue my research career carrying out a doctorate project. I have chosen to develop my doctorate thesis in the Hebrew University and in KadimaStem (www.kadimastem.com/) because both are highly valuated and can give me excellent training in the field of cellular and molecular biology. I am very interested in developing my thesis in subjects related to stem cells and epigenetics because both have a huge potential to fight against the human diseases and I want to take part in these advances.
Music I listen: Melendi, Estopa and Leiva, English rock ( Queen and the Beatles)
Books I read: Fantasy and classical
How do I spend my spare time? TV series – Game of thrones, Black Mirror…
Why am I in science? Interested in the mechanisms of the biologic processes…
How do I start my day? Wake at 7 o’clock. Make a cup of tea, shower and etc.
My home page in my browser? Google, PubMed, Linkedin and Facebook.
